Joyride is the commercial design practice of Australian-born, US-based graphic designer Jay Krause.
After a misspent youth drawing crude comic books and painting absurd graffiti, Jay studied a Bachelor of Visual Communication in Australia while developing his craft creating band posters, zine projects and mural painting.
Since 2010, Jay has practiced as a graphic designer working with clients from around the world, operating as both a freelance professional, and in creative teams as part of numerous design agencies. Jay’s work is inspired by vernacular folk art, mid-century illustration and animation, DIY culture, and the textural wonders of degrading signs.
His work often references familiar imagery from a bygone era and subverts it in peculiar ways, seeking to juxtapose the visual history of our collective past in contrast to the modern world. Brightly colored and loaded with engaging details, Jay ultimately seeks to create a sense of joy and wonder.
